Josh Jacobs reveals first impressions of Jordan Love after Packers arrival

Josh Jacobs can be a game-changing addition to the Green Bay Packers’ offense.

He has the challenging task of replacing franchise legend Aaron Jones, who enjoyed an unstoppable five-game stretch to close out last season. Jones meant everything to the locker room and fan base, not just for his production on the field, but also for his leadership.

Jacobs can take on that role.

The two-time Pro Bowler was the NFL rushing champion only a year ago. At his best, he’s one of the top running backs in the entire league.

Jacobs’ decision to sign with the Packers stole the headlines on the opening day of free agency. It’s a move few saw coming, especially as it was followed by releasing Jones. Jacobs named Jordan Love as one of the main reasons for coming to Green Bay.

Josh Jacobs reveals what he told Jordan Love after signing with Packers

Love will soon become one of the league’s highest-paid quarterbacks, and his impressive debut season as the Packers’ starter hasn’t gone unnoticed around the league. It’s already having an impact in free agency. In an interview with Larry McCarren for the team website, Jacobs revealed what he said to Love after signing with the Packers.

“I told him, man, you’re a big reason why I wanted to come here,” said Jacobs. “I think he’s going to be the next superstar in this league. The guy’s special. He’s young, and he’s only going to get better.”

He’s not wrong. Love faced adversity early in the season but reached an MVP level during the Packers’ final 10 games (including playoffs), in which they won seven. Love threw 18 touchdown passes with only one interception in a 6-2 stretch to close out the regular season before adding five touchdowns with two interceptions in the playoffs.

Adding Jacobs to this offense could be unfair on opposing defenses. He will face lighter boxes than he saw in Las Vegas.

Jacobs attended the start of the Packers’ offseason program, where he met his teammates, began to learn the playbook, and continued to adjust to life in Green Bay.

“It’s definitely been different,” said Jacobs. “Just finding my way around, really. That’s the biggest difference I’ve had. Trying to interact with the guys and let them get to know me.”

If Jacobs can put up numbers anywhere close to what he achieved in 2022, the Packers will be tough to stop offensively. Stack the box, and they have the passing game to take advantage. Drop more players into coverage, and Green Bay can hand the ball off and let Jacobs do the rest.

Jacobs is a fan of Love. Together, they will give defensive coordinators plenty to worry about.
