Both of Texas’s top defensive tackles in the 2024 NFL Draft class are off the board early on Day 2.
The Tennessee Titans took the second Texas football defensive tackle off the board in the 2024 NFL Draft by selecting senior T’Vondre Sweat in the second round (38th overall). Sweat was the first Texas Ex to hear his name called on Day 2 of the 2024 draft.

Tennessee is literally selecting one of the biggest humans in this 2024 NFL Draft class in Sweat. The towering 6-foot-5 and 366-pound defensive tackle tested well at the combine despite being the heaviest player at his position in this draft class.
The Titans hadn’t picked a Longhorn in the NFL Draft since defensive back Michael Griffin in 2007.

Sweat ran a sub-5.30-second 40-yard dash time and posted a solid 8-foot-2 broad jump during the combine testing a couple of months ago.
This pick for the Titans comes just a few weeks after Sweat was reportedly charged with a DWI in Austin. Ian Rapoport said in a post on his X account on April 26 that Sweat was “upfront and honest answering all questions”.
What Sweat brings to the table for the Titans is a big-bodied defensive tackle who can play over the football and eat up space in their three-down defensive front. Sweat was the highest-graded defensive tackle in the Power Five last season (per PFF).
Sweat has a powerful and big frame that just eats up blockers to let his other defenders in the box get downhill and make plays on the ball carrier.
Sweat’s surprising quickness and overwhelming level at the point of attack make him incredibly powerful and disruptive as a run defender and interior pass rusher. His two-gapping ability and interior run-stopping give the Titans’ defensive front immediate value as someone who can take snaps in live-game action right away this upcoming season.
The reigning Outland Award winner joins his former teammate at Texas, defensive tackle Keondre Coburn, in the Titans’ defensive line room.
