The Washington Capitals season is over but that isn’t quite bad news. Nobody expected them to beat the New York Rangers. But now that the Caps are eliminated we’re going to learn a little more about some nagging injuries we didn’t know much about prior. That includes T.J. Oshie, whom folks found out after the game played through a hand injury.

Dylan Strome said T.J. Oshie played Game 4 with a broken hand.

Sammi Silber from The Hockey News reported on Twitter or X that Oshie played Game 4 with a broken hand per Dylan Strome and then Stromer would add the following:

“”He’s a warrior, no other way to describe it. He’s one of the best teammates I’ve ever had over these last two years. Just the things he needs to do to get his body ready for a hockey game, you guys would be stunned if you saw it. If it is his last game, he’s a hell of a warrior, hell of a guy. Everything you can ask for in a teammate. Guy puts his heart and soul on the line each shift. Played today with a broken hand.””

In the regular season Oshie finished with 12 goals and 13 assists for 25 points in 52 games. He added an assist in Game 3. Per the game notes, Oshie’s assist in that contest tied Mike Ridley for the sixth most playoff points in franchise history with 60.

Since joining the Caps ahead of the 2015-16 season, Oshie ranks first on the Caps in playoff game winning goals with six, second in playoff goals, and tied for third in playoff points. His playoff numbers with the Caps are 29 goals and 31 assists for 60 points in 75 games. He is also one of three players on the Caps playoff roster who has scored a post season overtime goal, Tom Wilson and Nic Dowd being the other two.

The Caps were fortunate to have Oshie during their stretch run to the playoffs. Oshie was closing in on his 1,000th game but an injury delayed it. He still got to his 1,000th game and if he played in his last one he clocked out at 1,010 regular season games and 105 playoff games between the Capitals and St. Louis Blues.

The Caps players and coach Spencer Carbery will hold court with the media one final time at MedStar Capitals Iceplex on Tuesday morning. We may know more then. For now, we wait. Oshie’s grit and determination was the reason he even got to 1,000 career games as well as his positve #NoBadDays attitude.
