The Green Bay Packers have a number of free agents to make decisions about during the 2024 off-season. It’s going to be an interesting off-season for the Packers. It is widely believed that the Packers have a good chance to once again make the post-season in 2024 despite trading away four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers a year ago. Some analysts even have the team going further than that.
However, there appears to be one free agent who feels like his time is done in Green Bay.
The Green Bay Packers Are Likely To Lose Starter To Free Agency
Zach Kruse of The Packers Wire reported:
Coming out of the combine, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler believes Darnell Savage will get a “nice deal” in free agency. “Enough teams will like his first-round traits to give him a chance on a nice deal after he spent the past five seasons in Green Bay.”
The Packers are certainly not guaranteed to have safety Darnell Savage back in the 2024 season. After the Packers lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC divisional round, he even sounded like he was ready for something new.
“I mean, (are there) frustrations? Yeah, because I know what I am and I know what I can be, you know?” Savage said after the Packers’ loss in the divisional round at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers (via Jason Wilde of Madison.com).
“Everybody’s story is different, man. It takes some people longer to get to where they want to go. Me, I don’t think I’ll ever stop growing. I think I’ll always be that way, whether that’s here, whether that’s elsewhere.”
The Packers Likely Won’t Pay Savage Big Bucks
The Packers are looking to get younger and better in the secondary. New defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley made it clear that Safety is an extremely important position on the Packers’ defense. Per Lily Zhao of Fox Sports 6:
What does Jeff Hafley want in a post safety?
“I want a guy who can erase things.”
Wants his player to eliminate explosive plays, get guys down, go “sideline to sideline and take the ball away”, communicate and play man.
