However, an incident that happened before the game even started captured viewers\u2019 attention.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/GettyImages-1968592083-e1706661035401.jpg?quality=65&amp;strip=all&amp;w=780\" alt=\"Patrick Mahomes\" \/><\/p>\n<p>About 90 minutes before kickoff, Chiefs quarterback\u00a0Patrick Mahomes\u00a0and tight end\u00a0Travis Kelce\u00a0got into it with Ravens kicker\u00a0Justin Tucker. NFL Network\u2019s James Palmer shared\u00a0a video\u00a0that showed Tucker stretching amidst the Chiefs stars. Perhaps, too close.<\/p>\n<p>While Mahomes warms up, Kelce kicks Tucker\u2019s ball and flings his helmet out his quarterback\u2019s way. In\u00a0another video, Mahomes kicks Tucker\u2019s holder. Fans on X, formerly known as Twitter debated who was in the wrong. While some people thought Mahomes and Kelce were acting childish, others believed Tucker was simply asking for it.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Patrick Mahomes and Justin Tucker going at it pregame \ud83d\ude02. While\u00a0Tucker told reporters\u00a0on January 29 that he\u2019s warmed up on the opposite side of the field for the past 12 years, and that\u2019s \u201cthe way kickers around the league have always done it,\u201d Mahomes disagreed.<\/p>\n<p>The two-time Super Bowl MVP said he\u2019s only seen a kicker do that three times in his career, and all three incidences happened in Baltimore. \u201cHe does that little stuff, I think, to try to get under our skin,\u201d Mahomes said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI asked him to move his stuff. He got up and moved it, I think, two inches but didn\u2019t move it out of the way. I was gonna let it slide, but Travis got in and moved it for me. And after that, I wasn\u2019t gonna let him put it back down.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Patrick Mahomes &amp; Justin Tucker Still Have a Lot of Respect For Each Other<\/h2>\n<h2><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-inline wp-image-4689366 visible aligncenter\" style=\"font-size: 16px\" src=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/GettyImages-1968088156-e1706579959785.jpg?quality=65&amp;strip=all&amp;w=782\" alt=\"Justin Tucker\" width=\"782\" height=\"440\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4689366\" data-lazy-load=\"\" data-src=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/GettyImages-1968088156-e1706579959785.jpg?quality=65&amp;strip=all&amp;w=782\" \/><\/h2>\n<p>Mahomes noted that he\u2019s not holding any grudges toward the five-time All-Pro and is ready to \u201cmove on.\u201d He said of Tucker, \u201cI have a lot of respect for him as a player, one of the best kickers of all time, probably the best kicker of all time. But at the same time, you\u2019ve got to have respect for each team, and we all share the field, and we try to do that in a respectful way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tucker, however, said he\u2019s warmed up in that spot his entire career and \u201cnever really had a problem with anybody\u201d until now. \u201cI happily got up and I moved my helmet out of the way. At least, I thought it was enough out of the way,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then Travis comes over and just kicks my stuff, throws my helmet. I thought it was all just some gamesmanship, all in good fun but they seemed to be taking it a little more seriously\u2026 It\u2019s not like I\u2019m out there trying to be problematic. I\u2019m just trying to get ready for the football game just like they are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the playoffs create an \u201cintense environment,\u201d Tucker is also ready to move on from the incident. \u201cI think if you just see the whole interaction and then you just see us at the coin toss, we\u2019re all dapping each other up and then we just get on with the football game. \u201d He called Mahomes and Kelce \u201ctwo of the best players that have ever played the game at their respective positions.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Patrick Mahomes Said the Incident With Justin Tucker Only Fueled Travis Kelce\u2019s Performance<\/h2>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Okay, but why is Justin Tucker all up in the Chiefs side of the field? Not only did Kelce make an incredible touchdown catch in the opening drive, he surpassed Hall of Famer Jerry Rice\u2019s NFL record by catching the most receptions (156) in postseason history.<\/p>\n<p>Kelce was perfect against Baltimore, hauling in 11-of-11 targets for 116 yards. \u201cAny time you make a Travis a little upset, he starts playing even better,\u201d Mahomes said. \u201cThat\u2019s the type of competitor he is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, he didn\u2019t give Tucker full credit for Kelce\u2019s record-breaking performance. \u201cHe was fired up all week long\u2026 I don\u2019t think it was anything the Ravens did personally,\u201d Mahomes said, noting how discussion over Kelce\u2019s lack of production in the back half of the season was a factor. Kelce wanted to show everybody he\u2019s still elite.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe plays better whenever the lights bet bigger and there\u2019s more pressure on him,\u201d Mahomes said. \u201cHe wants to compete and win, man.
